Who We Are

A Programme Built on Purpose.

Njiwa Jiinue Initiative is a flagship community empowerment programme based in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya. Founded in 2018 under the patronage of H.E. Mrs. Margaret Muthomi, First Lady of Tharaka Nithi County, the initiative was conceived as a direct response to the deeply rooted socioeconomic challenges facing the county's most vulnerable populations: women, youth, children with special needs, and persons with disabilities.

The name Jiinue, meaning "empower yourself" in Kiswahili, captures the spirit at the heart of everything we do. We do not simply deliver services; we equip people with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to take ownership of their own futures.

What We Do

Three Core Pillars

Our work is built on three interconnected pillars, each addressing a fundamental barrier to a dignified and self-sufficient life.

Health

We conduct free medical camps, support maternal health through our Mama Pack programme, operate the county's first palliative care clinic, and promote menstrual hygiene and dignity in schools across all three constituencies.

Learn More

Education

We run mentorship programmes, distribute learning materials, support children with special needs, and invest in youth skills and digital literacy, with measurable improvements in academic outcomes.

Learn More

Economic Empowerment

We train women in entrepreneurship and financial management, connect youth to vocational and digital skills, and advocate for the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in community development.

H.E. Mrs. Margaret Muthomi, First Lady of Tharaka Nithi County, is the founding patron and driving force behind the Njiwa Jiinue Initiative. Since 2018, her leadership has guided the programme from a county-level advocacy effort into a multi-pronged community transformation initiative touching thousands of lives. Her unwavering commitment to inclusivity, particularly for persons with disabilities and children with special needs, defines the values and direction of all that we do.
